Accident-benefits claims after July 1, 2026

The benefits available after an accident now depend more heavily on which optional benefits were purchased and which person is claiming them.

Mandatory medical/rehab/attendant care remains

These benefits remain part of Ontario policies under the 2026 reform.

Optional benefits require the policy selection

Income replacement and other newly optional benefits are available only if the applicable coverage was purchased.

Optional coverage applies to specified people

Named insured, spouse, dependants and listed drivers are the covered group for newly optional benefits.

The policy at the accident date controls

FSRA says ongoing claims are not changed by the reform; coverage at the time of the accident applies.
