What is in a standard Ontario auto insurance policy?

Ontario's standard owner policy combines mandatory liability, accident-benefit and uninsured-automobile protection, plus DCPD unless the insured elects in writing not to recover under it.

Third-party liability

Ontario law requires at least $200,000 in third-party liability coverage.

Statutory accident benefits

After July 1, 2026, standard medical, rehabilitation and attendant-care benefits remain mandatory; many other accident benefits are optional.

Uninsured automobile

Mandatory uninsured-automobile coverage can apply in specified circumstances involving uninsured or unidentified motorists.

DCPD

Direct Compensation–Property Damage is included unless the insured elects in writing not to recover under that coverage.

Optional physical-damage coverage

Collision, comprehensive, specified perils and all perils are additional coverages rather than universal mandatory coverage.
