Minimum legal limit
Ontario requires a minimum of $200,000.
Higher limits are available
FSRA notes that $500,000, $1 million, $2 million or higher limits may be offered, with additional premium.
The limit is not the same as a deductible
Liability limits cap policy protection; deductibles are amounts an insured may have to pay toward certain losses.
Do not choose a limit from a generic rule of thumb
Assets, driving patterns, cross-border travel and risk tolerance differ; review the decision with a licensed adviser.
